ACS Coach Award Presentation

March 2006

Northern Ireland enjoys First Success with Premiere Coaching Award.

Seven Black belt coaches from Kaizen JuJitsu were among the first group of people from Northern Ireland to be awarded the prestigious Award in Coaching Studies by Brian Delaney , Community Sport's Development Officer with the N.I. Sports Council.

The first ever Award in Coaching Studies Programme was made available to a diverse group of various martial arts disciplines through the foresight & determination of the North Belfast Sports Forum . The Nationally Accredited programme was delivered in conjunction with Coaching NI & The Sports Council for Northern Ireland .

Brian Delaney , Community Sport's Development Officer , was on hand to award the certificates and pay tribute to the coaches. He commented “ In my experience, there are few sports coaches who can compare with the levels of determination & dedication that is intrinsic in martial arts coaching. The importance of instilling self-respect & self development at all levels is something that other sports struggle to instil in participants , but something that this particular group of coaches do as a matter of fact.”

Danny Corr , Chief Instructor of Zanshin Karate Jutsu, another progressive martial arts grouping added “Gaining this qualification has been a great achievement for all the coaches involved….regardless of how long you've been coaching, unless you're up to speed with the current legislation & best practice coaching methods, you're not doing yourself or your students justice.”

The 23 martial arts coaches from a variety of disciplines (including Karate , Taekwondo , Karate Jutsu, Judo, & Ju-Jitsu ) who were eventually successful , all agreed that working together towards the ACS was an excellent way to share good practice and contribute to their continuous professional development as leading coaches in their respective disciplines
